  The Forbidden Pool is located outside of Faramir's hideout in Ithilien. When Gollum is spied in the pool, Faramir threatens Frodo with killing Gollum. Frodo agrees to lure Gollum out. After Frodo does so, Faramir's men capture him and then mistreat him. It is because of this betrayal by Frodo that Gollum decides to lead Frodo and Sam to Shelob.
